Dr. Kelly M. Kapic Announced as First Honorary Chair of Theology and Culture

黑料不打烊 is pleased to announce that professor of theological studies Dr. Kelly M. Kapic (PhD, King鈥檚 College London) has been named the college鈥檚 first honorary chair of theology and culture. Due to generous donor support, Dr. Kapic will be devoting one-third of his time to research, writing, and speaking, while two thirds will be devoted to teaching at Covenant. Following a sabbatical during the 2026鈥2027 academic year, Dr. Kapic will spend the subsequent two years teaching full time, continuing this pattern until his retirement.

鈥淒r. Kapic is a much beloved professor at Covenant, where he has taught faithfully since 2001,鈥 states Dr. Collin Messer, vice president of academic affairs. 鈥淔or almost twenty-five years, Kapic has poured himself into the Covenant community, being a highly regarded classroom teacher, a significant faculty voice, and someone who has done much behind the scenes for our institution.鈥 

Dr. Kapic is the award-winning author and editor of numerous books, including You鈥檙e Only Human: How Your Limits Reflect God鈥檚 Design and Why That鈥檚 Good News (Brazos, 2022), Embodied Hope: A Theological Meditation on Pain and Suffering (IVP Academic, 2017), and his newest release, You Were Never Meant to Do It All: A 40-Day Devotional on the Goodness of Being Human (Brazos, 2025). Dr. Kapic also contributes to popular magazines like Christianity Today as well as academic journals, such as the International Journal of Systematic Theology, Westminster Theological Journal, and Journal of Spiritual Formation & Soul Care

Supported by groups like The John Templeton Foundation, Dr. Kapic has collaborated with psychologists, theologians, and philosophers on international research projects exploring topics such as grace, suffering, and the practice of lament and regularly speaks at churches, universities, and conferences in the United States and around the world.
